  1. The Armour Rd robbery took place at exactly the same time as the previous Armour Road Robbery (28th Feb, 00h40). Perhaps our neighbourhood watch co-ordinators can schedule patrols for around this time. Just a thought

  2. It is strange to see members of the public trying do police work (unlicenced drivers). why not join the saps if they want to be cops?

  3. The average resident in Hout Bay is already extended trying to school children, pay spiraling bills, secure their families at home and do scheduled NW patrols along with irregular responses to crime day and night and is doing as much as they can. Becoming a reservist is just not an option for the average family man due to time constraints.

The vehicle that was detained was being driven recklessly. The driver, who was unlicensed had limited control of the unlicensed vehicle and was a direct threat to other road users and pedestrians. To follow such a vehicle (eyes and ears only) and expect a SAPS interception is a fruitless exercise. To allow it to proceed on it’s merry way and have an accident with, or cause injury to another is not a natural reaction.

  4. Gotta be careful here. Bottom line is that you can't pull over a taxi, detain a driver or anyone else unless you are a cop. Even if the driver decides not to shoot you, your action could result in a case being thrown out of court on a procedural irregularity. You could find yourself up in court. If you are not SAPS then be the eyes and ears and call for assistance and (painfully) accept that SAPS may not provide it - traffic offences may not be high on their list of priorities. Having said that, if you think someone is really endangering the lives of others then like most of us you react accordingly and take the consequences.
