Approx 10 min before the mugging, while on HBNW patrol in Empire Rd, I stopped, advised against walking at night & offered the lady a lift. This was refused as she 'lived just around the corner in Valley Rd'. As I was holding up traffic, I did a U-turn in Valley and went back to escort the lady. She had 'dissapeared' and I started looking for her. Evidently in the meanwhile SAPS stopped the lady on Disa Bridge, and advised and offered as I had. Once again this was refused by the lady, even tho she informed SAPS she was on her way home to Hughendon. She was mugged shortly thereafter. The sequance of events was confirmed by SAPS at the station to myself, and relayed to Watchcon accordingly. I believe both SAPS and HBNW did what they could for the lady. She did not want to listen..... and no one else should be blamed!
ReplyDeleteSAPS only reported that they saw the lady walking earlier. There was no mention of any intervention. Good to hear that there was more than enough help offerd then!
