Warning

From an Overkloof resident:

We recently contracted a tree feller/landscaper by the name of Moses Egypt along with his crew of six men after spotting him working at our neighbours. In hindsight a very bad decision. Moses comes across as quite a willing and able tree feller, but he and his team are really quite unsavoury (something one only discovers on the first day). All of them come from Harbour Heights. They managed to do a lot of damage to our surrounding trees despite Moses’ guarantees that he and his “team” always work with utmost care. After allowing him and his staff to use our toilet in one side of the house, we noticed that a very expensive bottle of aftershave had gone missing. I brought this up with Moses and refused to pay him a balance of R500.00 until the item was returned. He admitted after a short while that he (and his crew) knew who had stolen the item (his climber “Bossi”), but the lies and deceit came thick and fast, and he refused in the end to accept responsibility for his staff. His demand for the balance was followed up with serious threats to my family. He and his crew arrived at our gate at about 7:30PM on Monday evening (lots of shouting and screaming). HB Security and the police were called. The end result was that I (very reluctantly) paid a portion of the balance for the sake of the security of my family. The stolen item was not returned despite all agreeing in front of the police that one of them had stolen the item.

Moses is approx. 40 yrs old from Harbour Heights. He is approx five foot six and has peroxide (orange-ish) hair and a moustache. He usually wears a chocolate brown overall with red CCC (Cape City Council) logo in red on the back The alleged perp goes by the name of “Bossi” who is very short, approx 45yrs old. Bossi is very skilled at climbing up trees (what one might expect from someone with long fingers). This morning we discovered that other personal items of ours were also missing (one only realizes this when specific things are sought)

I seriously advise everyone to treat these people with extreme caution. Do not let them onto your property. They are clearly an opportunistic and very aggressive bunch of gangster types. We believe that all of Moses and his team are capable of stealing.

We have decided to change all locks on our doors.

Ed: If you need a reliable tree feller that pays his taxes, lives in HB and supports HBNW contact Kurt de Beer 0832857607 kdbtreefelling@absamail.co.za

Beach and Northshore Under Seige

Typical of the incidents taking place. Also read post on Tuesday 9th further down.

On Tuesday 9th June I parked my husband's car outside our garage - because it is hard to park in the garage and he was away. I was sure that I locked the car but obviously did not. At 2.30 in the morning the alarm went off - the exterior beams in front of the downstairs part of the house. When I woke up, the plugs in the house had tripped. I looked out of the window but the sensor lights weren't on, so I told ADT not to worry to come (thinking an insect had set off the beam or something).

In the morning when I opened the car door, someone had clearly been inside the car. Everything was thrown out of the cubby hole and side pockets. The windows were open (and I definitely shut them!). Strangely, there were 2 lemons on the driver's seat that had not been in the car! A lot of the rubbish from our black rubbish bin was spread over the driveway. Our garage door was not closing properly as if someone had tried to force it open. It was still dark as I leave for work quite early, so that was all I noticed. However, when I got home on Weds evening and it was light I saw that our outside sensor lights were no longer there. Probably what happened was that the intruder/so used the black rubbish bin to climb on whilst stealing the lights (hence the mess on the driveway), and the plugs tripped when they cut the lights. I am very happy that we have outside beams so that he/they ran away when the alarm went off!

I also discovered another lemon in the flower bed next to our front door, which is on a higher level than the garage, so he/they were also prowling around there. Goodness knows why he/they were going around with lemons and why they left this weird calling card in 2 different places. I'd love to know if anyone else has had lemons left on their properties!

I thought people should be aware that intruders are wandering around Northshore in the early hours of the morning. Our house is down a very long driveway and the car could not be seen at all from the road, so they were walking down looking for somewhere to break into, rather than for an open car - that was a side issue, and nothing was taken from the car.
