Tuesday Incidents
On Saturday (23rd) around midday 2 Charlie females arrived by car at our complex main gate and talked their way in under the pretext of looking for a place to rent. Once inside they managed to persuade one of the residents to let them inside her apartment by way of a ruse whereby one of them claimed to be pregnant and urgently needed a toilet. While she disappeared upstairs the other one said she was thirsty and was taken to the kitchen where she received a glass of water (thus effectively splitting up).

Armed Robberies From Our Neighbours
Title: Armed robbery in Dreyersdal
Item Text:
It is a case of if there is any vehicle in sight when approaching your home, make sure that you are not being followed before entering your property - drive past and around the neighborhood if in any doubt - one has to be extra cautious with such persons of serious ill intent in the area at this time.
This is one of a few reports of armed robbery in local areas in the last little while - this report comes to us from BKMWatch (Bergvliet Kreupelbosch Meadowridge).
"Incident Type: Robbery - General Aggravated
Date and Time: 2009/05/15 09:00:00 PM
Location: Zomerlust Road, Zone: Dreyersdal - Area 2
Resident was arriving home from airport. As he (with family) got to driveway gate he noted a metallic blue sedan hatchback behind him. Sensing something he stopped before his gates. The car with a CY registration went past. He thought it was continuing so he opened his driveway gates and drove in. As his gates were closing, 3 armed black males all dressed in black ran through and up his driveway. They aggressively held guns to his families heads and demanded to go into the house. Once inside they were made to lie down while the thieves helped themselves to cell phones, lap tops, TV and more. It appeared that they were in the house for approx 15 minutes. During this time they appeared very professional, in that they were at first aggressive, then calming, ending up seemingly polite. They then left - no shots fired and no injuries. SAPS, ADT and patrollers were very quick to respond both to the premises and to search all surrounding areas and key exit points from the suburb. However the thieves were not found. The family was very traumatised and counselers were immediately made available. What is unbelievable is the thieves' brazeness in that there were several SAPS Kirstenhof vehicles out doing visible policing in the area - 1 had driven past an adjacent road minutes before and was in the immediate area when the incident occurred. An ADT response vehicle was in the road behind the residence when the incident hapened. Yet - through the thieves' professionalism and speed of operation, no one saw a thing. "

A police investigation into a spate of house-robberies and housebreaking in the Constantia and Tokai suburbs led to the arrest of 14 suspects and more arrests are set to follow. A Task team consisting of investigators from Kirstenhof SAPS, members of the Serious & Violent Crimes Unit in Cape Town, assisted by a local security service provider Mountain Men Security (operating in the Tokai area), were recently engaged in an operation to arrest the suspects. A breakthrough was made when Mountain Men security personnel, known in the area for their tracking ability, followed the spoor of 3 suspects linked to the scene of a house robbery in the suburb of Swaanswyk through the densely forested slopes of the Constantiaberg Mountains. The security personnel went to a location just above Mandela Park settlement in Hout Bay, where they estimated the spoor was leading them and laid an ambush with members of SAPS. At dawn contact was made with the suspects which sparked a police investigation which resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects and the seizure of a vast amount of stolen property recovered by SAPS. Inspector Rodney Franks of Kirstenhof SAPS said. An investigation of this magnitude has never been undertaken in our station area. The first suspects were arrested on the morning of Tuesday 28 April in a pre-dawn raid crack down by police officials. Items seized included cell phones, watches, laptops, power tools, cameras, digital cameras and jewelry. The last of the current suspects totaling 9, were arrested in areas ranging from Mandela Park in Hout Bay, to the Du Noon settlement in Milnerton on Friday 8 May 2009. The suspects range in ages from 22 to 32, are able to speak fluent Afrikaans, are all Namibian nationals, some with military backgrounds. All of them had connections with a commercial fishing fleet in Hout Bay where they worked as commercial fishermen. The stolen items seized thus far has an estimated street value of around R2,000,000 (two million rands) and many of these goods have already been linked to cases of house robberies and housebreaking reported at the following police stations: Kirstenhof, Diepriver, Wynberg, Claremont and Camps Bay. The suspects are due to appear at the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday 11 May 2009. Issued by Insp R Franks

Armed Robbers May Tour The Valley
Title: Armed robbery in
"Resident arrived home at 7pm. As he turned in the driveway, he noticed out the corner of his eye a car driving slowly past him. Weary from a very long day, he took a little longer than usual to get his car into position in the garage that faces directly onto the street and before he closed the garage door, he felt a presence of other people and a gentle tap on his shoulder.
Three men were in his garage. They were calm. There was one leader who did all the talking in a local Xhosa accent. They were all dressed in the same ‘uniform’ that looked like dark blue security outfits, no balaclavas; all armed with pistols that were not out of the ordinary and to the untrained eye, could’ve been standard police or security issue.
The resident was told to turn his eyes away from them and to close the garage door. The intruders were aware that he could press any other panic button and ensured that he pushed the correct remote for the garage door.
The leader entered the house and found the wife who was certainly confused to see him, but because of his calm uniformed appearance, she thought that he was perhaps a new ‘guard’ or similar contractor in the area. He asked who else was in the house, found the child, then led both wife and child to a room where the husband joined them and all three were instructed to lie face down on the floor.
The resident wonders if it may be a standard line or maybe they have specific knowledge, but still, the intruders asked to be shown the safe.
One intruder went with the husband to the safe, one stayed with the wife and child, and the third went through cupboards and drawers in other rooms, emptying out the contents.
Wallets were emptied out, and it seemed the leader could not clearly differentiate between membership/club cards and bank cards. He asked for PIN numbers of some of them.
The whole incident lasted 25 minutes and after they had loaded bags into the resident’s car in the garage, the intruders locked the residents in a bedroom. When the husband saw the car leaving the property, he climbed out the bedroom window and alerted neighbours to contact ADT and SAPS.
What was stolen: a lazer blue Mini Cooper S Clubman CA665653, jewellery, laptops, external hardrive (still attached to laptop), video & digital cameras, sets of keys, cellphones, whisky, wallets, valuable shoes. The flatscreen plasma TV was not stolen. (The 4WD Jeep could’ve been an option instead of the Mini, but it was loaded with kid's things that would’ve needed to be unpacked first.)
All three intruders frequently spoke on their cellphones. The resident believes they were talking to scouts who were outside the property, either directly outside or driving in the vicinity. A neighbour later said that when she drove past, she'd noticed a car that she didn’t recognise standing across the driveway with two guys sitting in it, and she had thought it odd.
There were only two occasions when the intruders looked edgy – when the residents took a long time to find the keys to the safe, and when the residents could not remember the PIN number for a bank card and the leader threatened that ‘there’d be trouble’ if a number was wrong – but at no time was a gun pointed.
The resident emphasises that the intruders were calm, well organised, well-spoken, neat, and conveyed a very strong ‘sense of place’. If they were to be seen driving around in our neighbourhood, they would not necessarily raise suspicion, as they looked exactly like professional contractors out to deal with a security matter. (And this is exactly what they were – albeit from the other side of the security curtain.)
ADT and SAPS were called and arrived promptly. "
