Beach and Northshore Under Seige

Typical of the incidents taking place. Also read post on Tuesday 9th further down.

On Tuesday 9th June I parked my husband's car outside our garage - because it is hard to park in the garage and he was away. I was sure that I locked the car but obviously did not. At 2.30 in the morning the alarm went off - the exterior beams in front of the downstairs part of the house. When I woke up, the plugs in the house had tripped. I looked out of the window but the sensor lights weren't on, so I told ADT not to worry to come (thinking an insect had set off the beam or something).

In the morning when I opened the car door, someone had clearly been inside the car. Everything was thrown out of the cubby hole and side pockets. The windows were open (and I definitely shut them!). Strangely, there were 2 lemons on the driver's seat that had not been in the car! A lot of the rubbish from our black rubbish bin was spread over the driveway. Our garage door was not closing properly as if someone had tried to force it open. It was still dark as I leave for work quite early, so that was all I noticed. However, when I got home on Weds evening and it was light I saw that our outside sensor lights were no longer there. Probably what happened was that the intruder/so used the black rubbish bin to climb on whilst stealing the lights (hence the mess on the driveway), and the plugs tripped when they cut the lights. I am very happy that we have outside beams so that he/they ran away when the alarm went off!

I also discovered another lemon in the flower bed next to our front door, which is on a higher level than the garage, so he/they were also prowling around there. Goodness knows why he/they were going around with lemons and why they left this weird calling card in 2 different places. I'd love to know if anyone else has had lemons left on their properties!

I thought people should be aware that intruders are wandering around Northshore in the early hours of the morning. Our house is down a very long driveway and the car could not be seen at all from the road, so they were walking down looking for somewhere to break into, rather than for an open car - that was a side issue, and nothing was taken from the car.

Saturday Incident Kidnapping

During this morning and elderly resident was abducted along with a domestic from a residence in Scott Estate. A ransom was demanded from the family for the safe return of the victims. Arrangements were made and various rendezvous were called until the kidnappers finally showed and made the exchange close to the graveyard entrance to IY. Two Bravo males (One may be a Charlie) reportedly ran up Hughenden Rd and hopped the fence into IY at the first bend (Known access point).

It seems strange that an incident like this should happen so soon after the abduction of a lady at a Constantia shopping centre for ransom. Copy cat or just coincidence?. Other possibilities are an inside job or are criminals in IY slowly organising themselves and planning more sophisticated crimes?.

From a reader: What amazes and angers us is what the possible outcome here could have been. Thanks to the SSP's i.e Coastal Security, ADT and HBS as well as community members for jumping in and assisting this family to the positive outcome. The big Question is...where the hell was SAPS???

From VJ: As I recall, SAPS were "standing by" on request from Watchcon. I hope this incident hits the press as I think that criminals from IY, in addition to the 17 nabbed recently, are inreasingly responsible for a lot of the serious crime in the peninsula. The authorities should recognise this and give our local SAPS the senior status that it needs to try and cope with the problem.

04h32 White Nissan Sani CA? behaving suspiciously in Beach Estate. The following report from Northshore Patrol: “We sighted what appeared to be a suspicious vehicle at around 04h00 this morning in Northshore Sector. The vehicle, driven by a coloured man( could not tell age but appeared to be mid twenties with a moustache) wearing a “hoodie” was a white Nissan Sani with uprated suspension and non- standard mag wheels( vehicle although old was in reasonable condition). We could not get the registration number but it had a CA reg. number. This vehicle travelled up Albert Road and kept shooting off up side streets, all of which were dead- ends such as Clyde Road. When this individual realised that we were following him, he appeared to be spooked.

Before our interception, we drove down Albert road toward the beach. After we lost him, we passed a house in Albert road who’s alarm had activated. We suspect that this was a driver with accomplices that he had dropped off and he subsequently collected after we lost him.”
