One thing I do not quite understand. You seem to know who these burglars and criminals are. Why not simply arrest them? Is the police not willing (or able) to arrest them?
ReplyDeleteHi Marta, have you ever tried to follow up on progress with the investigating officer. It goes like this..........#### is in court today call tomoprrow, three days later when you track #### down he says it's not his case it's **** case and he's sick/in court/on leave, when you do get **** he claims it's really ####'s case and they all say it's **** and it never is. I've handed in a weapon used in a serious crime with clear prints visible to the naked eye and when I followed up I'm told there were no prints while the investigating officer stares over my left shoulder into space! I'm not aware (It must happen though) of detective work ever tracking down a criminal using clues in Hout Bay. Arrests are normally made only when the criminal is caught in the act and then linked to other crimes etc.
ReplyDeleteFrom VJ: Thankfully, I've never had to follow up a case but If you are getting the run around, poor service or have any other problem with SAPS then you should have recourse to the community policing forum. That is a legislated body intended to provide some oversight to SAPS. Contact the CPF at www.houtbaycpf.org.za
