  1. I monitored the radio traffic and at no time heard a callout to Scott Estate to respond. This was understandable because the initial report was that an intruder had been apprehended, and the situation seemed stable. The next report was from the SSP who reported that the resident was "becoming unconscious". Watchcon was then clearly preoccupied in getting medical assistance to the site, but the various delays need full investigation.

  2. For the record / clarity, and as far as I am aware :
    • the resident did NOT sustain any knife wounds/punctures/stabs etc
    • the resident did sustain scratches/marks (thought to be superficial) etc from the scuffle to apprehend
    • the resident did POSSIBLY have a seizure after apprehending the suspect
    • other than SR1, Metro and local paramedics were on scene as well
    • SAPS were on scene, evidently in numbers and "quite fast"

  4. VJ - As reported in the Argus.

A 79-year-old man living in a Hout Bay retirement village died, possibly of a heart attack or stroke, after an intruder broke into his home this morning.

Police said the man was stabbed by the intruder, but Hout Bay police spokeswoman Inspector Tania Lesch said the he did not die of the superficial injuries related to the stab wound.

The man and his wife had been awoken by the intruder. The man had ordered his wife to lock herself into the bathroom, said Lesch. "During an altercation with the suspect, the man sustained a superficial stab wound to his arm."

Lesch said he had suffered a stroke or a heart attack after he had been spoken to security officials, and died at the scene.
