04h35 Luisa Way ADT 2 reports intruder, Bravo male inside house, dark clothing. Left when disturbed. Windows were open allowing entry. SAPS and ADT respond. Nothing further.
From a Disa resident Friday evening:
As my wife and I were leaving our home for an evening out, I noticed a young bravo male just outside our house, who seemed to be sussing things out on our property. He moved off when he saw me, and went into the bushy area next to the Bokkemans stream. Unfortunately I did not have my radio with me, and therefore took no further action. Stupid me!!! (The guests in our cottage had also left 15 minutes earlier, followed later by my son in his car). Our property was therefore standing empty, and all the departing vehicles made it pretty obvious to any interested observer that this was probably the case.
However, on returning home that night, I did not notice until the next day that my hosepipe was missing from the bracket in my carport, so I only then decided to review my surveillance camera files.
I was pretty shocked to find that the bravo male I had seen earlier on Friday evening had waited about half an hour to make sure we were not coming straight back, and then entered our property through the gap where the XXXXXX enters our property.
He proceeded to slink around our outbuildings, helping himself to whatever took his fancy. Although he spent about 45 minutes on our property, he fortunately did not break into the house. He seemed pretty nervous slinking around, so obviously wasn’t sure if there was still anyone inside the house.
I have some pretty clear pictures of his activities, including the removal of our hosepipe. I guess we were pretty fortunate that he didn’t get away with a lot more.
The point that I am making is that, like most of us, I have obviously become rather complacent about the crime around us, and now realize that this incident could have been a lot worse. The criminals are still very much in our area and are watching our movements to and from our homes on a regular basis.
I will certainly be far more vigilant from now on, and will always make a point of reporting suspicious activities via my HBNW radio, the moment that I see anything.
